There are times when ketchup just won't do it when it comes to fries. The hubby and I love fry sauce, and while we could buy it in a bottle, I decided to make my own. I found a recipe I liked and tried it. It tasted pretty close to our favorite fry sauce from a local drive-in, so this is on my regular recipe list.

A collection of condiments includes mayonnaise, pickles, ketchup, powdered buttermilk, and onion powder. These items are neatly arranged on a wooden kitchen counter.

Most of the ingredients are things I usually have on hand. The powdered buttermilk is now a staple also as I love to add it to my gluten-free pancake batter.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 3-4 tsp pickle juice
  • 2 tsp powdered buttermilk
  • Mix everything, adjusting for taste. Cover and put in the refrigerator for at least an hour to let the flavors meld.

A plastic container filled with a creamy, pale sauce rests on a wooden surface. The container's lid is placed beside it.

Fry sauce goes with pretty much everything: fried potatoes and onion rings. I love to use it on my burgers in place of ketchup. Give it a try the next time you make burgers and fries.
